AMULET FOR ABUNDANCE FROM THE EARTH
The round design is similar to baskets and Pueblo pottery
bowls. In the center is the six-petal flower, symbol of the hidden Jews of
New Mexico, interlocking with a Star of David. In turn, these are surrounded
by squash blossoms/pomegranates, symbols of fertility, bounty and joy, encircled
by flowing water.
The next circle contains eighteen holy eagle feathers (the number for "chai"
-
- life) and six stalks
of sacred corn. The "rim" of the bowl has a repeating pattern of
Jewish stars, a motif which is also shared with Native American potters. Above,
the sun, moon and stars symbolize the universe. Hidden candles are in one
corner, and in the other is Shaddai--
-- the most complete and powerful name of G-d, offering protection and written
twice to amplify its strength.
